Human Fruits, Vegtables And Nuts That Can Cause Harm To Your Pet
March 30th, 2011In addition to being diligent about dog food comparisons we also need to be knowledgeable about human foods that are dangerous to your pets. The following is a list of such foods:
- Cooked bones of any sort – can splinter a dogs internal organs
- Grapes and raisins – can result in kidney malfunction
- Broccoli – in large quantities can make your pet sick
- Onions – could destroy red blood cells and could lead to anemia
- Chocolate – could cause seizures, coma and possibly death, especially Bakers chocolate or dark chocolate
- Corn on the cob – parts of the cob may block the digestive tract
- Coffee and coffee grounds – any item that contains caffeine may have the same symptoms of chocolate
- Tea and tea bags – anything that contains caffeine may have the same symptoms of chocolate
- Raw eggs – could cause salmonella poisoning
- Tomatoes and tomato plants – could cause heart arrhythmia’s or tremors
- Avocados-the fruit, pit and the plant are all toxic – can cause heart and digestive problems, difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart
- Liver in large amounts – could cause vitamin A poisoning
- Milk – is hard to digest for some dogs
- Macadamia nuts – contain harmful toxins that may cause weakness, muscle tremor, panting and possible paralysis
- Walnuts – may contain fungus or possibly a mold that cause drooling, jaundice and lack of coordination
- Animal fat and any kinds of fried foods – could cause pancreatitis
- Fruit seeds – apples, cherries, peaches etc. do contain cyanide and could get lodged in the intestines
- Nutmeg – will cause tremors, seizures and yes death
- Alcohol – could possibly cause blood acidity, difficult breathing, coma or even death
- Xylitol is unbelievably deadly – even a trace is similar to arsenic in pets – can cause liver failure and possibly death
- Splenda – could be poisonous
- Mushrooms – can be poisonous
- Sugar – will make your dog sick
- Corn Syrup – can make your pet ill
- Too much salt – could cause kidney problems
- Cold cuts – these are extremely high in nitrates and can possibly lead to kidney and digestive failure
- Tuna – can contain mercury and small bones
- Greasy fatty table scraps – could cause pancreatitis – creates too many digestive enzymes. Dogs may display bloody vomit, dehydration and even death
- Pennies – are not a food but are worth mentioning – those dated after 1981 are made with a copper coating – just one can cause zinc poisoning and suffer red blood cell damage
